Re: Who Would Sell This....the Legend

Wylie,
I admire your decision to cancel the auction. Although I don`t know you, I believe that down the road, you would have regretted selling the trophy.
My father passed a few years ago and now I wish I would have kept some things that I threw out.

I deeply admire the Aronow legacy.

Re: Who Would Sell This....the Legend

I'm glad you decided to stop the auction.
Keep it in the family. Your father started it all for all of us junkies here.
Those are items that are a part of Offshore History and should stay together.
You may want to consider putting together a display of the items to have shown at the drypits of todays races. I'm not saying this in a way for you to make financial gain off your father's name - as you stated you have made your own achievements in this world, and to you I'm sure he was just Dad, that happened to be a boat racer - but to alot of other people, he is a legend. It would be nice to see a display of these pieces of our history.
I hope in no way you find my suggestion offensive, merely a thought.

Wylie ....good decision. Your response was very well thought out and mature. Time will show you the real value in keeping these for yourself and the family.

I have no doubt that you will do very well on your own, with your own ambitions and dreams. Very nice to have you on the board. We all wish you the best.

Re: Who Would Sell This....the Legend

Wylie, very cool move. would you consider loaning the things that are not as important to you to HORBA ? There are a many that are restoring old race boats and quite a few that I know of that are looking for some of the old race boats to restore. By you loaning them out so to speak, they would be out of your apartment but in view of people that appreciate them and help educate the general public. Personally I hope to see a rolling museum that can hopefully make the races to bring this heritage to the masses. You retain full ownership and the problem is solved. Best holiday wishes to you and your family...

Rob - That is exactly what I had in mind. I think you thought it through a little further. Great idea.

These are treasure's that I would like to see. Kind of like the Stanley Cup.

I'd be willing to help in anyway I can. If Wylie would like a display built, I'll donate any efforts needed in design and carpentry.

The HORBA connection is what I was thinking also - hoping one of the McCarthy's would chime in - but I guess we beat them to it. I'm sure they will.

Re: Who Would Sell This....the Legend

Thank you all for being so understanding and welcoming me to the board. I will be sure to stick around and participate as much as I can on topics related to my father.

As far as the HORBA idea, I will be meeting with Michael after the holidays and I will be sure to bring up the idea.

Have a great holiday guys!

Re: Who Would Sell This....the Legend

Wylie,

Welcome to OSO.

I am very impressed by your professional and personal response to the questions raised by
those of us who have a tremendous respect for your Dad, and the Aronow legacy.

I personally raced a 28 Magnum, for most of the 90s, and I can say, that of all of the boats
I have owned, it is the only one I really, really miss.

Perhaps, a traveling memorabilia display, available at various offshore racing venues,
boat shows, or OSO gatherings, might be in the near future?

Re: Who Would Sell This....the Legend

Wylie,
As stated by others welcome to OSO and good move on not selling those items. I agree with Offshoredrilling, you have a unique opportunity that none of us have to preserve and display proudly your father's legacy. It would really be great to see you get together with Michael and assemble a collaboration of memorabilia to share with others.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

Tom A.

P.S. - Myself and some friends of mine from the New Jersey Performance Powerboat Club will be having an informal get together on Sat. 12/30 at Lace Gentlemens Club in NYC after the boat show. Feel free to join us if you like!
