Larry Smith Scarabs?
Why does Larry Smith get so much credit?........his Scarabs look identical to the 35/38 Cigarette?.........was there a difference?

Because he built a boat that was very successful at winning races.
The 35 had a very respectable racing record as well, the 38- not so much.
In the end, all V-bottom performance boats have a lineage that flows through the Formula-Magnum-Cig/Cary 32.

I don't know where your at 24degrees but I don't think the scarab looks at all like a cig. The fact that they are both v-bottoms stops there. They are both beautiful looking boats but I think the scrarab is a little prettier. I'd give my eye teeth just to have either.

All Scarabs are Larry Smith designs. He built the race hulls.
And all offshore boats basically look the same and share the same basic angles & proportions?
And back to your original point- I don't see many people singing Larry's praises. It's not like he's put on a pedestal like Aronow. He's one of a number of well-respected builders.

We were in touch with Larry around a year ago about building a new 43 for a customer. He was building and designing his own bottoms (yes, with steps). They were extremely fast and ran great in rough water. He just very recently retired.
