Those Damn Bubbledecks
Here is an extract from a 1981 Halter 200 report.March 28th `Halter Racing was the 39` cigarette originally built for Billy Martin which came out of the mould too heavy to be competitive. But she was this day with the veterans Willie Meyers and Wayne Vickers on throttles`,End of quote. As this boat appeared at Key West but not raced (spare boat for Meynard as he raced the cougar cat),see Nigel`s pic (it`s a spare boat Nigel, pity you didn`t have the cash at the time),it would seem that the Popeye`s boat which I have noted as being around in 1981,but have no record of it racing is either a third bubbledeck or the first blue Martin boat. What we need is a US clone of Marco to solve it.

Bubbledeck Again
I have just viewed my DVD of the 1982 St.Augustine race, where the white `Popeyes` retires. If I didnt know any better I would say it`s repainted from the blue Halter that raced in 81.I cannot come to terms with the fact that the induction boxes are the same, whereas on the earlier red boat they were different. Why have a blue original bubbledeck in 79 and then have Halter induction boxes for 82,seems odd. Also from my records Billy was on board for the 81 Bacardi so Halter sponsorship came in 81,so to say Billy ran the original blue boat for Halter, when the 2nd red boat appeared in 79 I find difficult to tie in.Hope you are following all this Marco,it`s one for the darkroom methinks.By the way you can only see one induction box in the photo but the boat sports two on the DVD,just like Halter Racing 81.If the original blue boat was the dog`s knob why isn`t it mentioned in depatches,or did it just rot somewhere.

Damned 39!' Don't worry Nigel I also like that ineffective Cigarette.
Again for those 39' I must close me in the darkened room.
I hope to go out with the thread of the skein loosened tomorrow....but I believe it little.
Graham, it seems this is the true Pink Panther?

Also just Spoke to Bobby Idoni, he Believes there were 3 Bubble decks Built Third is Unknown where it went or is. It's not that, that boat was ineffective, It was a great rough water boat, ran like a cadillac in rough water, just at that time in history there wasnt the power we have today. One more "funny" thing about that boat.... When you steped out the side with wet shoes, It would send you in the water when your foot hit the "Bubble" since there was not really a side to walk down LOL Defidently a boat you had to walk down the center dash to deck. The guy that restored that boat did a BEAUTIFUL Job!

billy is the red boat, or the 'spotted' boat(that occasionally pops up for sale) the more desirable one?

Billy`s Bubbledecks
Thanks Billy for clarifying the situation. It all makes sense now, although there is one thing. If the heavier boat from the 79 Bounty Hunter thro to the 82 Popeyes did all the racing, then presumably the second boat talked about in earlier posts went the same way and the third boat talked about in this post, that is,never raced.
