Re-wiring Projects

How is everyone re-wiring their Restorations?

Are you using pre made harnesses or making your own?

Also, If your making your own harness, where are your getting your multi colored primary wire from? I'll Problably need about 25' of each 18 or so different colors.

I think most people make there own but there may be one available from your particular boat manufacture however the price would be extreme.

As for where to get wire? Not at Autozone thats for sure, try these guys they have wire that is tinned for marine use and it comes in different colors:

Yeah ... My boat maunfacter is long gone so that isnt an option. I made my last Harness for my Tahiti Jet and It Took about 8 Hours doing all heat shrink but I didnt use Tinned Marine Wire.

I see at wiringproducts.com, they don't have as many colors as i was looking for however, I did find a place that has a bunch of different colors all in 50' rolls for a pretty great price.

Anyone have a Standard Mercruiser Color code?

Thanks,
Matt

1984 30' Scarab S-type with twin 502's ------ 1974 21' Tahiti Jet with a 502
I just finished re-wiring my 30' scarab. I had real problems finding the number of colors I needed for wire so instead I ran 4 7 wire harneseses from the engine compartment, 2 harneses were for the engines and the other 2 for all other electrical needs. At the helm yes I have duplicate color wires but with a good wiring schematic(which I will laminate and keep in the boat) it's really not that difficult to understand. Here are a couple of pics of the harnesses.

Good Luck!

go to west marine for the wire, it's expensive, but they usually have all the colors and it's tinned. you can buy small rolls for under the dash and not end up with 95' of pink wire.
