Maltese Magnum Twin
Evening America
one of our members has obtained the Maltese Magnum Twin hull and needs to get in touch with Michael to see if he can help with deck pattern, she was raced in GB by John Kennerly two engines on to one shaft livery was Dk Green race no 40 this is late 60's early seventies...
also needs to know where the name originates.
Have you heard that the 1966 Levi Hydrosonic Special has surfaced in Italy and will be restored.
Thunderbolt now ready for engines but not enough cash saved yet.
a big reminder that in 2010 there will be a celebration of 50yrs of the COWES TORQUAY and anyone owning a craft that entered would be more than welcome over here to represent the American entrants of that legendary race, come on Barry you gotta bring Ghost Rider over!!!!!!!!!.

Maltese Magnum Twin
Thats very nice to know, it was suggested that it may have been due to be splashed on "Boat Mad" a year or so ago then be made into a Rib. Go`s to show good designs never die !

Maltese Magnum Twin / 2
Further to Mike's kind introduction, I'd like to post some photos of how she looked... but don't seem to be able to in this forum
She was campaigned in Europe by Don Aronow as Maltese Magnum 2 (single engine, vee-drive) the dark green Magnum that helped him clinch the '67 World Championship by placing 2nd at Naples and winning the Dauphin D'or in the South of France.
I've been in-touch with John Kennerley... he bought her direct from Don, raced for a while and then installed the second (in-line) mercruiser when he entered the 1969 Round Britain Race. The side exhaust ports and particularly the cowls are fairly unique... these helped to reveal her identity.
She's in a poor state (two un-useable sections of deck left, not much transom after gas turbine fitted in 1974) but the rest of the hull is a tribute to Don and Magnum Marine... Will keep you posted as to progress. Cheers, ian

Magnum sorted... Maltese..not !
Thanks Marco
I followed-up your posting and searched through the old stuff.... Brownie said that the name "Magnum" came from a brand of petroleum (sorry, gas) seen on the pumps at the diner in High Sierra, a Humphrey Bogart film.
This ties-in nicely with what I was told by Magnum Marine with regard to the "Maltese"... They said that Don had a fascination for the Maltese Falcon story ( another Bogart film from 1941) and that is how THAT came to be used - though they did say they were n't 100% sure....
What we need is confirmation from Mr McCarthy or Mr Brown and we're home-and-dry !!
