Was watching my MiamiVice DVD's last night and at the beginning of 'smugglers blues' Crocket&Tubbs are sitting in a car when Crocket hears something, "sounds like a cigarette, twin 641's I think" he says.
Crocket's amazing! able to id an engine's HP or CI by a mere distant sound! No wonder my friends, family, ex's, and current gfriend make fun of me.
Anywho, has anyone ever heard of a 641, vintage 1984 of course?

That era was 540`s and 575`s were the latest badest motors, mostly built by Hawk Marine and C&G at the time, Don was actually pretty good as a Motor head, We were part sponsored by GM when we ran the Team USA boat, Don Runkle was in charge of Hi-Po at GM at the time, Several engineers were sent to Cobra for help in building our motors, only problem is that no one listened and we had horrible luck with motors, We took everything eventually to Harold Grady Coyote engines and finally won a race in Marathon beating Ike Batista and Bobby Moore in Spirit of the Amazon, They cut us off in the turns, wet us down, but we persisted and beat them for the only win in that boat. Don was involved in all aspects of the team, and did a good job.

Ritchie - I was at Bill Schaefer's Superbowl party last night and told him you and I were talking on OSO. He remebered you from Turnberry and all the Cigarette connections and told me to tell you hello. He is much more sedate now - 680 SeaRay SS. Barry

What ever happend to Don J. ????? Does he still life in FL. ?
Would love to see him around some races !!!
I tried to get him to come for the Sunny Isles Bimini race, He said tell them to send a jet and have a limo ready when he got there , He hasn`t changed much from when we raced together. He lives in L.A. commutes to San Fran. and Aspen

Seeing Bill's name brought back memories of the first "poker runs" that Norval and Tod ran in the late 80's early 90's. I ran 5 or 6 of them, both north and south. Lots of laughs with Bill and the rest of the "group". Please say hello for me the next time you see him.

Mike - I was on most of the Poker runs as well. I should recognize you, what is your last name?
I can still remember Norval driving 'The Dealer' and filming other boats at the same time.
Funny at Bill's party the other night, there was another Turnberrry regular, Susan Green, who was in Law School in UM at the time. She still looks terrific.

Barry
Barry - Let me first apologize, for my 20+ year old memory of those days, that has somewhat turned to mush. I also have trouble recalling, without some help, many of the friendships made during those 4-5 day “events”, also known as Poker Runs. The first few runs, I brought a Cigarette Mistress, race fairing/hatches, and then changed to a Top Gun. Also at that time, I was in an APBA boat sponsored by Zip Corvette Center that we had around once or twice on the North Run. DareDevil on this thread is using one of my pictures. Hope something here helps.

Mike - I remember you now, a good Polish boy (as am I). You would probably most remember me because i owned and brokered a lot of mid-year Corvettes and I'm a ZIP customer. I remember talking Corvettes with you. I did quite a bit with Pro-Team back then as well. If I recall, your 35 had the same stripes as Gary's but yours were blue, black, and silver where Gary's had red instead of the blue. Gary's was the first 35 with full race hatches; we convinced Craig Barrie at the time to change the half hatches to full, so he made a new hatch mold. I almost want to say that yours had half hatches, but like you said that was 20+ years ago so the memory is a little faded.
But even after all these years I'll bet you remember that crazy hat Phil Meshinsky used to wear on the poker runs.
The next time I'm in Lauderdale, we should catch up.
