The fugitive financier was Robert Vesco, not Tom Vesco. Don Aronow often told the story of Robert Vesco wanting to give Don a check for a Cigarette just before Vesco's disappearance. Don said, "Robert, I'll take cash OR I'll take cash". Don said Vesco then gave him a briefcase of cash.
