Default The molds

The molds you speak of steve1 were sold to Halter by Jake Trotter in the early 80'S. I had heard they were in a storage lot in Ft Lauderdale back then. The molds were rough. Halter spent time and money to restore those molds. He built a few hulls but only one was finished. The mold was blocked for a notched transom to accommodate Arneson drives. Foam cored hull too. Wish I could find out more info on the Halter Fino. If anyone knows anything would appreciate a post or PM. Thanks in advance, bertsboat

Default Halter Trinity Fino

Built by Halter in LA late 70'S by Herald Halter. Supervised by John Rose of Ellis Propeller of Jacksonville. John worked for Halter when it was built. This is the only one completed. They built a few hulls but only one was completed and this is it. 340 Mercruisers coupled to Arneson drives. Closed cell foam cored hull. Vinyl ester resin too.
One of the unfinished hulls was used for the Yadvish Fino. He said the boat he used for his plug had a notched transom. Halter notched the transom ( from the mold ) so the Arneson drives could be used and so that they would correctly work, and they do. Doing some engine work. Top ends and the stuff you have to do when a boat site for 5 years. Hope to have it out for the fourth of July here in St Augustine. Sat for years in a boat house on the St Johns River in Welatka. Same owner for the last 15 years. Before that it lived in Ft Lauderdale winters and Alex Bay on the St Laurence upstate NY.
I am very excited about this boat. It has air condition in the cabin and a head and sink. It is really the last Fino to come from the original molds. The molds sat in a storage yard for years in Ft Lauderdale. Jake Trotter sold the molds to Halter and John Rose and a team of boat guys cleaned and reworked the molds that were in bad condition for at least three months at great expense. Mr Rose said that they would have been better off making new molds but Halter insisted the originals be saved.
I have many Fino pictures now that I have collected. I will post them next week.
Bill Stephenson, please join in on this and post a recent picture of your fantastic Fino restoration. I will do it for you if you have not done so next week.
I have to thank Bill for all the help he has given me on this project and thank you to Butch Stoked too. Butch worked on the original Fino's, all of them. He was the head of the Fino building team in Miami at the Fino plant where the first 7 or 8 boats were built then at the Magnum plant where the rest were contracted to be built.
I will post more if there is an interest.
Bert
