Default Yanmar 6LY drive suggestions on Cigarette 39

Good morning all,

I am looking to convert a Cigarette 39 from petrol to diesel using the infamous Yamnar 6LY 440hp units. I am looking for some advice on the use of the Konrad 600 series with the Yanmar 440hp, does anyone know of the 600 series being rigged this way? The use of the boat is not all out race performance, it will be setup more like a Top Fish but diesel, so I will be looking for 50+knts. Does anyone have any thoughts or assistance?

Thanks

Stv

The Konrad 660 Twin Prop is a very rugged unit. We've had fantastic success with this package behind many Yanmar, Cummins and MDS diesels (marinized Duramax) Feel free to shoot me an email to my work address and I'll be glad to provide more information.

I'm running Z Hurth trans on my Yanmar 6LP. But it sounds like your looking for I/O. If you have Q&A on Yanmar, let me know.

6LY's are great engines. With the right setup shaft drive's should give you 50 knots and would be very robust with minimal maintanence compared with sterndrive. You could also look at waterjet propulsion or surface drive however these alternatives will be more maintainance prone particularly if run in salt water. You should end up with a nice rig.

I have tried to get info out of Weisman on their Hammerhead -- duoprop surface srive -- but never get an email back... has anyone heard if they are in production with these yet? That looks like a winner to me behind a diesel. I'd like to mount these behind some 550 hp cummins in a 43'

I have done numerous 6ly installations. I would without a doubt go with ASD 8 drives. What gear ratio do you have in the transmissions? Stay away from the Konrads. They will break. I have done one boat with those and after the 3rd broken drive he had me change it to arneson asd 8's.

-The 600 series is a totally different design from the 500's. 6" diameter upper gears. Fantastic success in diesel military applications world wide.
