when the running surface is convex like a rocking chair.......... A hook is just the opposite.

Doesn't get any clearer than that .. There is a Sweet Spot for how much Rocker is good. Too Much Rocker will make a Porpoise Machine.

Figure the Formula 302 is pretty straight. Are we talking a tiny amount?

Most V's are not perfectly straight. Many have built in rockers. Almost all Cigarettes and derivatives have built in 'rocker.' Scorpion 32, tempest 32/ 38. Avance and navigator are straight bottoms.
