Mine is stamped into the gelcote (upper right hand corner of transom) MAG273410476........................ possibly your hull ID #'s were sanded off in a transom replace.
Your registration also carries the vin or Hull #'s......for instance my hull numbers state (MAG27) = hull model ..(341) = is the build number ...(0476) = month & year keel laid
Since we both have a 1976 sport ..........I was curious and interested to know what build hull number you have and if it was close to mine..............Scippy

Scippy, this boat was raced by numerous teams and we all know how those racers where back then most boats had numerous owners that thought each other was handling the paperwork. The only thing they cared about was the fun part. I'm guilty! Yes this boat had the double whammy. I would assume the numbers where ground off and the title was fed to the dog. The previous owner requested the title and tag and I installed it and transferred into my name. I will check the metal vin tag.

The 28 Cigarette is that the old "Silly Goose" out of Erie Pa. If so I remember that when it was brand new. The old owner and I spent many days racing each other up and down Lake Erie.

The second owner of the 28 Cigarette SS is the Grumpy Old Men Magnum Race Team from N.E. Ohio. They sold it to a friend down the road from them. The boat was sold with very well built engines. The boat was used a couple of years and put in a barn unwinterized for ten years. Engines where shattered. I am the fourth owner. The second, third owners and I live five miles from each other. The boat has always been a Lake Erie Boat.
