Default scarab 300 1981 rebuild

I hope this is the right place to post this. Here's some background info I have been working on boats for about 3 years. I have replaced transoms and stringers on 2 boats. I have had 4 byoats all together 5 being the scarab 300. I picked up the scarab for my next build. It's going to need stringers and transom done and I'm going to run the LS 5.3. The question is that the TRS outdrives cases are shot. I was going to freshen up the merctrans and look for some drives but since I'm going to be doing the transom iv been told to go with bravo's. Also raising the X dimension is another question. The thing is with the trs outdrive I wold like to be able to rebuild them myself. I have been reading that the trs is tricky and tools are hard to find. Any input would be great thanks!

With everything you are already redoing and bad TRS cases, I'd make the swap to Bravo's.
Probably raise the X at least 2 inches.

PM member Glassdave, a guy in our circle just did the conversion from trs to bravos in a 300 with 383's. Dave should know what X dimension he used and how it ended up running.

you are near me. I know a guy with a decent set of TRS, transoms, drives, borgs. you would need the flywheel covers which everybody calls bellhousings. But don't do it. buy 2 junk neglected bravo boats. people buy em. run em 2 summers. leave them sit till interior dissolves and block cracks. then there is a whole bravo setup for 1500 and you can get back a lil with selling the trailers. and LQ-4 6.0's are everywhere cheap. don't bother with 5.3-s.

You may or may not be interested, but I will likely be selling my 79 scarab 300 soon. I will be pulling the engines, steering, k planes, etc. to go into a 38 build I'm getting into. The 30 footer has had the stringers and transom replaced a few years ago. Look for the scarab 300 resto thread here if you're interested. Edit- The resto thread is in the scarab section.

Just in case anyone is following this I just got the scarab into the garage. know I can start ripping it apart. I think I'm going to build a low cut windshield and go with a single bow rail so if anyone is looking for railing or windshield frame let me know also the TRS stuff is also going
