Default Building a budget boat..

I have a 86 baja 320, bought this year with intentions on fixing it up, pretty much fine the way I got it but need to make it "mine"

Ihad a engine issue (spun bearing) forcing me to do my transom now while engines are out, I had a thread a while ago about buying a pile of BBC/TRS stuff, 90% of people said it was junk, I thought not, so I bought it, now I am getting parts for me for free and making money off them to pay for my transom!

Like I said most said it was a pile of garbage..I figured I had somethign there, paid 2600.00 I am up 500.00 profit, still have one merctrans left, a 4 bolt block, 2 sets of rockers, and a couple balancers and flywheels, 2 trs gimbles, and a few misc things, I am keeping the Merlin heads, new double roller timing chains, the 2 Holley single plane intakes, and the 23 cleaver props.

I would say if I had to go buy the stuff I am keeping it would be around 4200.00 so, as I see it I made prob easy 1000.00 in profit and kept 4200 ish worth for me, makes a great deal for me!! I am also selling my heads and intakes that will add to the profit! my engine rebuild and some of the transom money will come from the profits, that my friends is how you build a "cheap" boat!!.

Buying and selling/trading can really help a budget guy build something, I plan to do this whole boat for under 25,000.00 including buying it, that includes rebuild engines, hull work, and paint, interior is already done and I will be doing the rest myself aside from the transom work.

I did something REALLY similar....

My boat had a Volvo Duo Prop and a 330hp plain jane 454. I sold my Duo Prop (Complete) Bellhousing to Lower unit on ebay for $3000. Went back on ebay and bought 2 complete bravo 1 setups, K-planes, and mayfair hydraulic steering for $5k. Since I only needed one of the Bravo 1 setups, I sold the other set up for $3000......I'm a grand ahead right now...less the labor to have it all put together...

It is so much cer to use parts to get parts and make money while doign so, I have gotten alot in life by doing it this way!

Everyone said i will have a fortune redoing my boat, I doubt it, so far so good! I also scored K-planes for 500.00 and they are like new, indicator panels for drives and tabs, new Mercury racing 99.99!! could not beat it, the challenge is kind of fun too!

Sounds like a very good deal. Where did you find these K-planes and indicators, ebay?

K-planes were on ebay, they did not hit his reserve, I offeredf him 500.00 and he took it, he wanted 800 at first, indicators I found from a guy here in the classifieds, he had one set left, not sure who he was now though.
