Needle broke on Trim Tab indicator

My new to me 28 apache has a latham trim tab indicator. The port side needle is broken off and you can not really read the indicator all that well. Has anybody fixed the needles on a trim tab indicator. It looks like the actual needle is just a piece of plastic or rubber. I was going to just buy a new one, but decided I would give the repair a shot myself. Whats the worst that could happen.......I buy a new one I was planning on getting anyways.

Heres a pic, you can just barely see that the port side needle has broken off.

Thanks in advance

If it's like the Merc ones, there is a little screw on piece at the end of the cable, can't be more than 10 bucks.

Or the spring loaded button popped out. You may find a small piece and a spring. There are two sizes of buttons. When you take it apart pay attention to the way all the spacers and washers are arranged.

Thanks a lot, I'll give it a shot. How easy are the trim tab indicators to remove and replace? Assume 0 experience........

I would suggest disconnecting the cables on the transom end and see how freely your cables move. If the cable is dragging and/or the coating is cracked you might as well change both cables. How easy it is depends largely on access. Given reasonable access and you possess patients its not hard. The work is in the assembly of the dash end and spacing it properly. It would be a shame to fix now and redo later this or next season cause cables bound.
