Trim Indicators

Does any one know the corect way to hook up the mechanical trim cables to 2005 250 xs outboards. The way it is now the cables come threw the transom between the motors than go behind the motors and hook up on the outside of the motors to a bracket straped around the trim piston. This can't be right. They get crushed every time you bring the motors in. There must be a way (bracket) to hook it up on the inside???
Its a 28 Skater
