aftermarkt cam for 454 bbc

Good afternoon,
I´m new in this forum and like it very much.
I have a stock 1989 chevy bigblock in a 26 ft wellcraft Excel. The heads have peanut ports. I need a new camshaft now. I looked in the forum but found only camshaft grinds for the 454mag with oval ports or rectangular ports. Can you give me advice what camshaft ( or what grinds) runs good with the peanut ports?

Greetings Andree

No interest in getting some better flowing heads?

I run the Crane cam part#132561 which has 228\236 duration at .050 .530\.551 lift and 114 lsa.

Thats a good cam and is the stock 525SC & 420 cam. Its no longer available since Crane went outta business. Some other Cranes are still being made by whoever picked up the line. He will also be limited by his exhaust.

Just put in a stock 454mag. .510/.510, 220/220, 115 lob sep. Pretty sure its just a GM cam.

I think this is the cam for the 454 with the better flowing oval ports but not for the peanut ports, isn´t it?

That is the flat tappet cam used in carbed 454mag and 502mag engines. They use GM rectangular port heads.

And you think it will run with peanut ports?

I think all he was saying was, they aren't "large ovals" they are rectangular.
*(on MAG motors)

Very inexpesive bolt on upgrade for your heads. I have done these on several engines and it is an night and day difference from those peanuts.

Yes. Its a mild upgrade and will still work with stock exhaust.
