Made a booboo while winterizing what would you do?
Well trying to winterize your boat and watch your 4 month old is evidentally to hard for me. Got the oil changed and everything drained yesterday and was going through clean up. Sprayed the motor down with degreaser and fired up the pressure washer. When I started spraying the port motor I noticed something move and immediately stopped (probably been spraying 5-10 seconds on front of motor towards the top. What was moving was the oil cap on the valve covers. I FORGOT TO PUT IT BACK ON. So I got fresh oil in it and its winterized and done. I dont think much if any water got it. Probably just overspray if any. What would you do? I left the cap off last night to see if it might evaporate some. Anyone have any suggestions? I will change the oil again in spring forsure.

Personally, I wouldn't take a chance... I would run it one more time to burn off any moisture...
Better to be safe than sorry.

I cant be SURE, but, I seem to remember seeing an additive that truckers use to absorb water out of oil in diesel engines, I am not sure how much water you injested, best to be safe as Panther stated, did you check the dipstick and see what the oil looked like? if its milky then you DEFINATELY should change it
Good Luck!

Remove the belt so the impellor doesn't turn, thus no need to have water going to the motor, and let it run just long enough to circulate the oil, then drain and change.

I'd say that's a fair way to alleviate any issues. Good idea. If you have a serpentine belt, remember that the alternator will not be charging either. So you can't run it long & you will have to maintain the battery.

look inside the valvecover,if a small amount got in,you can remove the cover and dry the water out.

You dont want water in there.. It is cheaper to waste another pack of oil than to have valvetrain work or more to possibly do in the spring. Jamie / Lakeside

I would not use a pressure washer on an engine anyway. Bilge, yes, but not on the engine. Too many places that you don't want water to get in to.

DO NOT RUN IT!!!! Water will sink to the bottom of the oil pan under the oil if you dont run it and mix it all up. Drain off a little bit of oil into a cup or something small and see if any water comes out with it. If you just get a few drops or none at all then I would start it and burn it off. If you got a bunch of water into it, your life will be alot easier if you let it reach the pan and drain it out before starting.

Usually don;t have to use a power washer on the engine. If I have the motors pulled I will bag them like crazy and spray them down but someone sold me a busted oil drain pump. Damn thing built pressure then blew about a quart of dirty oil all over everything. Should have just kept the old one I had but I wanted the new shiney one lol. Got it working now. Going to check the oil tomorrow and see how it looks. If it looks ok I am going to run it and rewinterize the motors
