Engines won't shut off ???

Carbed 502's. Had this problem for a while just happened one day. Even bought new alternators. They are Bosch internally regulated, just a single ignition wire to them. I tried running a globe inline and also tried one way diodes inline but still run on, unplug the alternators and they shut down. Any suggestions ???

thanks for the help.

i had a 350 that would start itself...freaky! there was an undiscovered short in the wiring harness that occurred when the starter went south....maybe unplugging the alts just breaks the circuit...and the problem is elsewhere...starter/ignition?

I had the same problem when I went from motorola to single wire ac delco. you have to run the wire direct to the battery, as most alternators other than the delco incorporate a wire to excite the field on the alternator

That is so funny, the engine would actually start itself?

hey pismo....
yeah, it would turn and turn....but, when warmed up...fire!
real wierd...i'm loading the boat at the ramp (walking to get the truck), and i hear another loud boat...so i go to check it out and realize it's MY boat!...unless boats can be haunted, it's the strangest thing i've ever seen....

If it is a one wire hookup you must connect it straight to the battery with appropriate sized wire. Right now you are charging through your ignition system. While charging, you will always have power to the ignition with your current setup.

Since I have had the boat (10 years) they were 1 wire jobs for exciting. At the moment charges through the factory harness /ignition system?. I will run a new separate wire to the battery direct I should done this before !!!

thanks for all the help & coments !!!
