The tool I'm using goes through the gimbal bearing & into the coupler so I think we're talking about the same thing here?

The gimbal bearing needs to be aligned properly before checking the engine alignment. Did you do that?

Put the tool in the gimbal bearing half way, then move the tool, up/down/left/right until it lines up with the coupler. The gimbal bearing has quite a bit of movement in any direction. Then insert the coupler the rest of the way to check alignment.

It's easy to do but hard to explain accurately..

I went by the local shop talked to the guys. Now I understand what you two were saying. Didn't realize the gimbal bearing could be off. I've only aligned a motor once before & the tool slide right into the coupler so this wasn't an issue. I'll try it again. Thanks

Very helpful thread! Have you (or anyone) had any issues with the aluminum bar stock you used to space up your engine mounts? I always wondered if they would have problems if you came off a good sized wave not quite straight or something.

Thx!

I reinstalled my engines this spring after several years of hard running with those space and the engine alignment was still perfect.

I’ve put roughly 70hrs on the boat since this mod & the bar stock spacers are rock solid.

My results are similar to Jeff’s in post #3. 3 blade props are worthless & 4 blade props are fast but blow out in tight turns. 5 blade props help a lot but you lose some of the top end speed advantage. I put in a .5” drive spacer last week but haven’t run the boat yet. Ideally I’d like to go back to the 4 blades if I can keep it hooked up in tight turns for water sports.
