Crane Hi 6M Question
Hi All,
Wondering if I might be able to get a hand with my Crane HI 6M ignition. First, which # advance curve should I be running? Motor is a Gen 6 502, JE Pistons (Stock Compression ratio, aluminum heads, crane cam, EMI Thunder exhaust, Gary Williams Holley 850.)
Also I’ve heard of quite a few people not using an advance curve and locking out at 32*or 34* over 3000rpm. Apparently the multiple spark discharge will fire 16 degrees +/- which is enough to get it fired up….can anybody explain why you would do this, and if there’s anything to gain or lose?

I forget the name of the company, but someone is making them, exactly the same but without the Crane logo on it.
You can probably find a manual online that will give you the advance curves that you have available.

I have the manual e-copy. It's curve No.8 you want. Set your base timing at 14 deg BTDC.
It's a bit too lge for PDF upload (1.15mb) but I can email it to you if you like.
PM me an address or post it here.

Thanks for all the advice! The box was originally set at #8, which I think is the same as the HP500 curve with 20* advance at 3000. My problem was that I set my base timing at the standard 8* instead of 14*. New motor felt kinda weak for good reason. I am going to advance timing to 14* and see what happens, plus drop back down to 8* and switch over to the #6 curve for a try.
I'll bring out the GPS to help me make up my mind....thanks again.
