Default Installing Sea Strainers--Question

I am re rigging my boat and currently the sea strainers are mounted low (almost to the bottom) in the bilge. It has water pickups on the bottom of the boat and seawater pumps.
Can i mount the Strainers 8"-12" higher than they are now without running into issues. The top of the strainers will still be below or even with the center of crank shafts. Inlets to the strainers would be approx 12" from bottom of boat.
I didnt know if this would affect the water the engine was able to get. Any ideas? Thanks

I always mounted mine with the top of the strainer just above the water line while sitting still. This way the lids can be removed without sinking the boat and they will stay full of water having a good easy supply to the pumps. I don't think too high is good especially if it raises them above the water line. You do need access to them though for service although I have never needed to clean mine oout yet in this boat at least.
