Default 454 330 swap for ls1 with pro charger

I have a 1991 predator viper 24ft 4000lbs it had a 454 330 that was tired and had now power. I'm looking to build a new motor and I'm thinking about an ls1. What are people's thoughts.

Ls1 with pro charger and zo6 cam 540 hp is what I thinking about building.

I think it would be cool to have in my boat over a bbc I could build one but lots more money that I don't want to spend on the boat.

Good idea if you already have the wiring to make it a "stand alone" engine. If not get out your wallet! I just sold a 2006 LS1 in a box needed rebuilt w/ full wiring harness for $2800.

Stick with a carb 350 block so many parts so cheap!

Just a thought

Why won't it work if I do it right and it will be cheaper to do the ls1 to get that kind of hp out of it
The 454 all I could use is the block and have to get all new internals and everything I could get a good runnin ls1 and the cam and pro charger for less than 4k

+1 I went through the same thing a few years ago with my formula 242ls. I wanted to build an ls style motor to replace my tired merc 350. My plan was to build a truck 6.0 with a health cam. Even if I converted it to a carbed base ls motor it was still crazy expensive for all the marts, The exhaust manifolds alone were a couple thousand, and this was buying a used 6.0. I don't think the market is their yet for the ls stuff in the marine application to make it worth while to do the swap. I was able to build a 509 bbc for around 5000, big simple hp!!!!!

I have to buy exhaust either way I go and I would only have 4000 in the motor and exhaust the only thin after that would just be the little stuff that I would be missing

Ls motors will do just fine in a boat, Volvo is betting that they don't need the BBC an they have ls motors coming out, they have been used in ski boats and big cruisers for years, merc has the stern drive market locked so that's the only reason why they are not in more stern drives, crusader has had them out for years, the engine coupler is the same. With the power you want I would have no problem running the crusader manifolds, they cost less than 1k they appear to flow well, (they are heavy though) and ls motors will make that power through stock car manifolds, look at the Lsa motors they barely pick power with headers. The stock internals will be fine at that power, I would just run a larger gap on the rings, and a cam with decent split to let the exhaust flow, the intake number will be fairly small to keep the torque up and reversion down, look at the lingenfelter cams they are designed with low overlap, they keep the torque up and they work well with superchargers. Search the skater 24 with bravos and twin 5.3l running 104+ with stock junk yard engines through crusader manifolds, or the phantom 21 that runs 96 with a worked ls2/ls3
