I get my engine it today. Mind you this is just to get me through the summer. I pulled the flat tappet cam out to put in my complete roller setup and I find this



The gouges were so deep, I could drag my finger nails across them and feel bad ridges. The cam bearing tool I used did not cause these gouges. I call the company and they say they "dry fit" the cams and run them on a sim test machine. They say these "gouges" are completely normal. Ive built many of engines and always installed my own cam bearings and never seen this. Are these people smoking the crack or not owning up to a mistake? I went ahead and pulled the crank to check everything out. Looks great. The cam even looked good.

Never heard of dry fitting a cam .Bearing look like crap to me .I wouldn't be happy. Run in or not .What do they do ...spin it "dry"

Mike thats correct. Its a fresh rebuild. Needless to say, I wasn't happy about this. I told them on the phone to just refund my money for cam bearings because I'm installing new ones myself anyways. They didn't budge. They swore it was normal. Everything else checked out when I pulled it apart. These bearings really concerned me.

The sim test these motors, there was oil all in it so Its been spun on a machine or they just dumped oil over everything. Oil was in the oil galleys as well. This dry fit of the cam they are talking about is madness to me.

That looks like the bearings I pulled out of a brand new Jasper reman I had bought a few yrs ago. Jasper said the same thing. Randy

if they primed the engine the oil would be on the cam bearings and it the oil gally,s,i have never heard of sim test but im just a dummy from illinois.

I think it is just a term that some average shops use to let you know the motor actually turns.. and if your lucky they pumped oil in it when the spun it
