What cam grinder's part number is that? If it's any help to you I run Comp Cams Extreme Marine 272 roller in my twin 355 Vortecs. I am very pleased with the performance.

I will have to look up what I put in my vortecs, that number looks familiar. If it is the same as mine, that is the stock cam to the 290 - 300 hp mercruiser engine, which is also used in a couple of GM crate motors. All that info is in a folder at work, I will look tomorrow.

I run a Comp Xtreme Marine 262 flat cam in my Vortec 355. I wish I would have went bigger. I would go 272-278 if i could do it again.

here is your cam. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/nal-14097395 I would go bigger. And also its a 109 cam, most marine cams are 112 lobe separation as to avoid reversion.

He is correct, that is the stock mercruiser cam and that is what I run in my motors. You can find them on ebay sometimes as a brand new takeout as they are the stock cam on the 350 RamJet engine and the 383 truck engine also I believe. People buy the crate motors and then put a new cam in right away. I picked up a new take out for $90 to $100 shipped I believe, sometimes they are cheaper.

With the vortec heads and other L31 engine parts, I believe this is good for 290 - 300 HP depending on intake and carb. It is a pretty conservative cam for a 350 vortec, like others have mentioned you can build more power with a more aggressive cam, but I can attest to the fact that they idle nice and are very well behaved.

You are correct...any lift over about .480 causes a bind in the lighter stock spring. Larger more robust springs require relieving the spring pocket to accept a more substantial and larger diameter spring.
