Default vst to fuel rail???

Looking for a little help, after sending injectors out for service I marked the outflow from vst electric pump to the bottom line of the fuelrail when I took it apart. In the merc service manual it shows a pic of that as correct, then later on in the manual it shows that line as the return. In Merc #16 on page 5C-22 it shows the bottom line as the input and the top as the return, then on page 5C-154 it shows the opposite.....which is right? Has it been wrong all this time??
Thanks

Not sure which way is correct, but as long as there is a feed line and return line, it really shouldn't matter which is which.

So it does make a difference? Not really a top and bottom on vst, out and in so guessing top of rail is inlet bottom is return?

Return is cast into the VST housing, it goes to the bottom of the rail. Yes, it does matter.
