Default One more on the Baja, super stifff steering

Bravo 1, stock steering very stiff. Even harder with drive partially up. Greased the fittings on the Ram, to no avail. Power steering pump is full. Cable ?? 1988 Baja 265 Force.
Thanks,
Dale

Disconnect the steering cable it's only one pin. Check the steering wheel and drive independently. Sounds like the drive is binding probably in the gimbal.

the cable gets very tight in the sleeve at the steering valve. mine 2000 bravo 3 was frozen solid. (motor was out-easier to deal with) first you unscrew big nut on end of steering cable at valve. work wheel back-forth. cable housing moves instead of boat steering. looser? thought so. now reattach and wd40 and then grease transom end of cable as you work wheel back and forth. but in the end you need to remove steering valve from transom assy and pull it off the cable. then take 220 sandpaper and clean up end of cable. file off any high spots made by vise grips and such. I took a 9/16th drill bit and ran it on drill inside steering valve. cable diameter is more like 5/8ths. another option would be long wire brush something like gun cleaning tool or roll up a piece of sandpaper and run it thru there. it isn't a Baja thing, it's a mercruiser thing.
