What if the only difference in a runners inside port dimensions between a 305cc head and a 320cc head is length ?

Tony designed a lot of the small block castings, and I believe some of the big block ports as well. He isn't the owner, and actually isn't an employee anymore at AFR. He has his own business "Mamo Motorsports" where he'll still be doing custom porting, and other cool stuff, and will still be working with Bob M for sure. He is N incredibly talented individual, and a very down to earth guy.

To the OP, you could always start with the 305's and then if you do upgrade to the 540 down the road, you could send them in to Tony for a little "massage"..

We have used a lot of afr heads in our builds make great power on a 502-509 we have used both the 315 and the 335 not much difference on the dyno on my 540 i like the 335 a little better but really not much difference

Is it that to the average "sportsman" type enthusiast, the flow numbers are still relavant for sizing components and designing an engine combination?
I had the same exact question. Actually my question to a head porter was "how in the hell am I supposed to get a can ground with no flow numbers?" He laughed a little bit and said "just call Tim at Bullet, he has designed all the cams for the record setting cars with my heads on them without any flow numbers" CFM really doesn't meant anything any 5year old with a Dremel tool can hog out a port make it flow 100cfm more totally kill the air speed in the port and have a motor that can't get out of it own way. If you noticed in this thread almost everyone recommended and AFR head. Well, there is a reason for that. They work very well cause the guy that designed them knows how to design a port. AFR heads make power no doubt. Go find comparable engine build with AFR heads and any other out of the box head AFR will win every time. Compare the CFM/flow numbers between the heads sometimes the same sometimes AFRs are less CFM but yet they make more power. Port velocity is the difference.

Just so people know, touching on what haxby said, the no longer working for AFR thing happened very, very recently. To be exact, this past OCT 24th/2014. http://speedtalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=41533

So don't think you are getting a different product now than what you would have just a month or so ago. It's the same and thus all good.

I once had a ford mechanic that was rebuilding my 5.0 under warranty do a "port and polish" of my stock heads and add a b303 proven cam and the car was slower than stock. clearly it takes more than a dremel lol

I'm not the person to be asking that question but I do know that length plays a big part in tunning a port.

Thanks I plan on calling him to buy the entire top end as next winters project, lol based on those dyno threads there are no dummies in your crew, I wish I lived in your neck of the woods, Its 1000 just for a few hours on a dyno around here
