They make valve cover gaskets that are .312 thick.

I took the crane roll-rockers from my HP500 and used them on my ZZ502 engine. Then tried to use my stock HP500 valve covers, but rocker clearance forced me to buy some taller/angled valve covers and have some "fabricating" done to clear the exhaust. (wish I would have seen this thread / gasket idea back then).
Do a search on the ZZ502 for making a change to the oil filter base on the block. My memory sucks, (read;none) but it was a quick-easy mod.

Ignition setup. So I've been re-rigging everything as the previous owner was a bit of a hack and found the wire going to the DUI coil/distributer was 20g max straight from the key, and a quick check on da web shows 12g min. Do you all run a relay off the key switch for the ignition?

Also, I've never ran a centrifugal charger before. Is this a bad spot for this hose regarding heat?

That is where I ran mine and I did not have any problems , what are you going to put over the intake of the supercharger ?

Cool.

I plan on making a custom aluminum/fiberglass duct that will angle around the valve cover. I've seen some folks just putting metal screen over theirs but I want to muffle the intake noise as much as possible with a filter/spark arrestor even at the cost of a few ponies.

No,

Purple wire is ignition +. The old canister type ign coil purple wire is probably still around the area where it was located. Engine side too.The grey wire was there too. This was attached to - of coil for the tach.
Here is a decent source of Merc wiring diagrams in .pdf :

That link is massively helpful, thanks! The grey wire to the tach is still there so I'll see if the purple wire is there.

I didn't find the purple wire but changed out the 20g for the 12g and fired it up for the first real time since last fall. It seemed to run better and smoother in particular at idle with the bigger wire.

The lifters were clacking a bit until I gave it a few hard blips then they settled down. Normal? Fresh 10-40w 60# at idle. Are full roller rockers louder than stamped units?
