I can't begin to tell you how many years I've used Napa oil which I always thought to be valvoline. I Run engines hard with minimal problems over the years. It's interesting to hear some of the post regarding sythetic but yes perhaps coincidental. I was continplating changing over to amsoil sythetic in fresh 496's. The machine shop I use highly recommends the zinc addative and swears by it especially with today's oils especially with flat tappets.

When I talk about using AMSOIL, I did not want to give anyone the idea that a ZINC additive was in the AMSOIL motor oil. Yes, they do have additives. But refer to them as "proprietary". Here is some good reading on not only the Joe Gibbs oil, but some good baseline information on motor oils and usage.

I've run 2 stroke amsoil in all my go fast 2 stoke toys. Wouldn't change it up for anything. Why not try their four stroke oil. Without a doubt everyone has their own preference and there's nothing wrong with that. Much has changed with oil over the years especially with pushing the limits daily. With the kind of power out there it's a must.

My question is, while the manual only refers to conventional, would the synthetic blend mixed with conventional be a mistake? Blend in one engine and conventional in the other?

I prefer to follow the manual to a T, but wanted to bounce it off my OSO buds!

Thanks....
Mix one gallon of petroleum and one gallon of semi for each engine.

Enjoy.

Rather than start a new thread, will just give an update/testimonial as OP. For all the non believers of the importance of changing the engine oil every 25hrs on the 525EFI like the manual says, do it at 25hrs like I did and be shocked! I was shocked at how dark the oil was at 31 hours since last change. Black color. I'm VERY easy on the engines at that, often not above 4000 RMPs. Will get done in 25 hours from now....

So, just spreading the word....

What filter are you using?
