I agree.

In my mind here are the tow biggest possible issues:
1) As I stated, the 600 Edelbrock with it's out of the box tuning
2) Mallory HEI - I have no experience with these, but many HEI's 'are all done' by mid 4000rpm range. Also, make sure you are getting full volts to it.

OP - you checked fuel psi at idle. Make sure to check it at WOT and top rpm. This will tell if fuel flow issues to the carb or not.

Double check choke is open when you do these tests. Also double check and make sure carb goes to WOT when your handle throttle is at WOT. You do this with engine off oc course.

18ft stvs will run in excess of 120 with 2.5 drag outboard, 60mph in a 17ft...lol, not even a problem.

to much compression
to small of carb
exhaust restricted
to much cam
whole build is hotrod not marine...

need smaller duration larger lift cam
need flat top pistons or slight dish not more than 9.5:1
800 cfm carb
need good exhaust

220/[email protected] with 550-575 lift is a ok 5200 rpm cam...

lt4 loses to much torque and falls off fast
