Default Freshwater pickup hose to water pump, tricks?

Hey all,

Been quite a learning process but have my first Hardin stainless pump swapped out. I am struggling to get the red bottom hose back on the pump. I have lubed it up with white lithium grease inside the hose and on the pump. But it just won't get back on the pump. Are there any helpful tricks to this or I need just to gorilla strength it on?

I just installed 2 last week. Used the Hardin fittings with NEW hose and they slipped right on. Is your hose older and hard? I also spray mine with silicone spray.

Yes it is the original hose I suspect and it's pretty rigid now. Where did you source the new hoses? I saw the part number for Merc is for the bulk hose.

You could warm and soften the hose with a hairdryer and anti-freeze is another lube option.

I hope the older mine gets, the more rigid and hard it gets. LOL!

So sorry guys, had to toss in the humor on this one. Too easy of a target.

Good luck with it, some good advise given.

Ha I knew it was too easy...so I went with rigid and that didn't help.

I cut those hoses off and going fresh. We'll see how it goes tonight.

Unfortunately two of the air fittings broke off, one on each side so going to need to order those. Seems like a design that won't hold up to pulling the pump off very well.

Bought new hose and it was no problem. One of the hoses was a 1 1/4 on the 1 1/2 fitting. Don't know how the hell they got it on there.

New hoses and I'm on my way hopefully to being finished soon.

Just make sure you use the Hard Wall type hose for that pump supply hose.

agreed. wire-wound hose. your raw pump sucks! since that is what it is supposed to do...
