I've been eyeballing an XR drive so I can do a rebuild on the engine right. If everything works out maybe the drive part will be **free. Anyway what drive do you have on yours?
I would recommend an XR. It takes a bunch of torque to get these boats to fly.

Thanks ZXXX thats what I was leaning toward... we will see what the insurance numbers look like and if the BIII drive has a scrap value. Props look like they could be repaired easily...

I was told the XR would bolt up easily to existing BIII stuff is this true??

Pretty much. You will need probably a $150 part. I don't remember exactly what it was.

From what I was told it will bolt up, you just have to change out the gimble bearing since the XR has a larger input shaft.

Lose the BIII lower. It is a nice piece for cruisers but is not as efficient as speeds go up.

The word I heard is that your race boat was pretty light in the back and that was a contributing factor. Bryan Rose has a light (er) 27ZX. It probably weighs over 500 lbs more in the back. It tracks pretty well to 90 or so. His bottom of pad to shaft is around 5"

Prop technology has improved a good bit since they built your hull. You may be able to play around with your X and props to get it settled out.
