Default 28zx with Volvo sx drives

Looking at a 28 zx that has volvo sx drives. Never seen one with the sx drives. I am concerned with adding external steering. I have no idea if you can add it or not and there is not tie bar between drives. Has anyone seen the sx drives on one and know any information about them.

For wingplates, for tie bars, or for both?

Latham has them listed on their web site.

Not sure if it would be worth the expense though? Be sure to check internally for a tie bar too, there should be an internal tie bar if there is no external bar and I don't think you are supposed to run with both.

Why wouldn't it be worth it.

Marine Machine should have the bracket pattern, tie bars are made to order so no pattern needed.

I am thinking the expense of adding it ($5k?) on a used 28' boat with twins probably isn't worth it.

Most of the 292 FasTechs don't have hydraulic and they are direct competition to the 28ZX (Formula doesn't even offer it as a regular option). Some of the 28ZX's don't have it either and the guys that have them don't seem scared with them. I seem to remember Fishin' sucks boat didn't even come with an external tie bar so he would be a good resource to talk to.

Now if you are planning on performance upgrades, different story.... but you would also be in pretty uncharted territory with performance upgrades with the Volvo's

I currently do not have external hydraulic steering but the boat did have it. i can see where the original brackets were but someone robbed it off the boat before I bought it back in '08. Boat seems to run just fine, but I don't know any different.
