Default 38zr prop advice

I just purchased a 2007 38zr at an auction with 525's ITS ,XR's with sport master lowers. It did not come with props. I bought some used maxiumus 5 blade props that are stamped 15-1/4x32. I was told these were lab finished by mercury. I broke one of the blades off and was trying to buy another prop. It seems they come as 15-5/8's unless you get them lab finished? First of all is this true? Is this the right size prop for this boat. I was hitting my rev limiters pretty easy with these at 89.8 but it was only 60 degrees out. Any advice would be appreciated.

Anybody have a 38zr on here? What are you running for props?

From what I have found you are running the correct props with your set-up. Have same stock set-up that we experimented this year and could not find a better set-up. We just finished installing 565's and went up to 34's, have not had time to dial in yet. And yes, you need to cut down from stock for best performance.

According to the Donzi factory prop chart (1/31/2008), a 38 ZR with 525s and XRs or Sportmasters without ITS should receive 15 1/4" x 32" Maximum props. For boats with ITS, the prop chart recommends the 34" Maximus instead. However, all boats went to sea trial and were propped accordingly. Shoot us an email at [email protected] and tell me your hull ID number and I may be able to tell you which props your boat was shipped with originally.

I had 34 Maximus that were lab finished on mine, boat ran very strong (90.6 best on GPS, around 5150 rpms IIRC) with good midrange, but was very slow to plane. Unfortunately got into something on the bottom and replaced them with the same prop, but they were labbed differently, and i have struggled getting anywhere close to the same numbers, in fact I cant get over 4600 RPM or 82 MPH. If I had to do it again I think I would try a stock 32 first before I went with the 34 labbed, cost is lower and may be closer to the original performance. BBlades has a nice try before you buy test program, give them a call and have them send you a pair to try, One of these days I have to pull mine and send them back to have some more work done, hopefully I can find the RPMs and speed I am missing!
ps- boat is the same, 2008 38ZR 525 ITS

I've got a 2008 38ZR with 525s and ITS.
I run maximus 5 blade 34 pitch labbed and shorted tube props. It does 88MPH at 5200 RPM.

I also have a set of Hering 5 blade, 34 pitch 15.5 in props. These are beautiful. A sharper prop. It planes easier, no need to drop the tabs, runs the same top end but feels better all the way through.

It came with the maximus props from factory and was stated to run 88 MPH on the bill of sale. And it does. 100 hours on the motors.

Default 38zr prop advice

Thanks everybody for the help! I bought another labbed 32 and a set of stock 34's which I sent to bblades to get cut down to 15-1/4 labbed and the diffuser cut down 1/2". We will see which ones work better at the Miami poker run in February.
