MyWay Donzi 38 ZX

Hey everyone, I'm Mark from Dallas Texas, new to the site. Wanted to let ya know I bought a new 38 ZX Donzi last July 2004 with 525EFI loaded up. I happy with it. I have had it running 78 on GPS, 80 on GPS a couple of times. I still have the 28 pitch stock props on it so far, I am trying 30 stock, and labbed, and also 28 labbed out soon.
Anyone have any suggestion?

I have a 33zx daytona and spent a lot of time and $ last season trying to squeze more out of mine. I have 500 EFi's with MSD electonics, extension boxes, have ran 30P labbed and non labbed and 28 non-labbed. I have tried hydromotive props, tried switching rotations in all configurations. I have also put on IMCo 2" rediction shorties. I run 83/84 at best. Everything I had tryed netted me the same results. 83/84. Sometimes with higher RPM's and poor hole shot, and a lot od slippage. some time with lower RPM's and better hole shot with less slippage. A frustrating year....ending the season where I started.

I would be surprised if you are happy with labbing the props. For mine, it did not help any in speed. The Donzi's are heavy boats. They need alot of prop-face. Thinning them down did not help me. In fact, I split a prop with only 10 hours on it and am back to 30p non-lab. The only thing I had not tried is the new Maximus 5 blade. I have purchased one, and will purchase the other before the spring season. Hopefully, the combination of the shorties, and some extra prop face will take my slippage down and get me the speed I want. Right now, my slippage is like 18-20 percent. That is off the charts. We will see.

If you have XR drives I've been told the P5X props from Hydromotive work very well on the heavy Donzis. I have a 2001 with standard B1 drives with HP500EFI and stock 28P Bravo 4 blades and get 73 - 75 GPS in fresh water. I am only hitting 4900 RPM though. What RPM are you getting with the 28s?

Sweet Ride! Watch labbing a 28 pitch on the boat you actually loose speed. The 30 pitch will bring you to 78mph if you lab you will get 80. we tested a lot Mercury props on the 38ZX. she is a heavy boat and takes a lot to move that big boat 525s at 78-80mph for the weight that you are moving is respectfull. Once you get in big water the 38ZX will dominate because of her weight. best of luck with her

I'm also getting 73 to 78 at 4900 rpm with 500 efi's on my 38 ZX. I was also wondering what I could get out of it and wich prop to try.

I didn't want to play the trial and error game.

I agree on the thought of labbing the 28's. I'd bet it wont get you anything but pissed off that you spent the money. These are heavy boats and they need a strong prop. I split a 28 labbed right after I got it done. Most of the people giving me advice have lightrer Fountians or Cats.

I am really hoping that the maximus will do me right. If not, I am dont trying.....well, for now anyway.

Only five more months til boating season....
