Default `06 Newer upper Xr worth the 1000 $ upgrade?

Ok it`s time to rebuild my drive , i have a newer ( serial number 0W240391 ) XR drive , i blow the upper case last week and i look for a replacement , i have made shopping at BAM Marine and found a brand new upper for 3695 $ (pre-2006) , and it`s look like this upper will fit on my new style XR ? or i have no choice to spend 1000 $ more for the right upper (4895 $ for the new `06 upper )?

I know it`s a lot of question , and my english is not very good , but i will realy appreciate the time you going to spend for me

I would imagine that you could find a used one if you are trying to save money.

I would stay in the new , because my boat is a 2006 , and i will trust more a new upper than a XR drive with no hour meter on it
Thank`s Audiofn

I would save the $1200 and buy the older style. Call Bam and ask them about the application, but I think it will work fine.

Ok i spoke to Mark Berman at Bam marine , and he said to me the 2006 is slightly stronger ,and the upper pre-2006 will fit on my lower , 1200 $ is alot of money ,

but a boat ride at the end of a rope because of a drive failure is priceless ,

I bought a new style XR upper from Victory Marine. Paid $3000. I have had it for 1 month with no problems. The only problem is that they are only able to offer a 90 day warranty because it was sold new from Merc as a whole drive and the lower was sold separately. Merc will not warranty if the drive is parted out after leaving them.

25,
I tried to send you a PM, but you are not excepting them? Can you open them or remove some of your pm's, so I can send you some info..
One question I have, how bad is your damaged upper?
