Default merctrans ll problems

i recently had my bellows replaced on a 1974 255 mercruiser and on the first trip out the spring on the front of my tr outdrive yoke cut thru the output shaft seal of my merctrans ll ... i think the people who replaced my bellows must have done something wrong ... what should i be looking for ? is there a washer in between there or could they have put in the wrong spring ? bent the spring any help appreciated , thanks in advance

If kirk (KC Marine) does not have one I could make you one for a reasonable price.

P.S. Kirk Cody is a real good guy

Now that I think about it most likely your washer is lying in the bottom of the housing at the back of the trans, just in front of the aft bearing. See if you can look in there with a mirror. I can't remember for sure but you might be able to poke a finger in there. That's where it would land if the o ring broke. If you are stuck let me know, I'm sure we have one someplace around the shop.
