Default Leaking Oil from Drive Resevoir

I am leaking oil from the small drive resevior mounted on the inside trasnom on a 358 Sonic. This is the starboard side and the boat is running Bravo 1 XR drives.

The oil only seems to leak out when the boat is underway. I don't think it is commoing from the cap becasue I lose quite a bit of this oil in a short time.

Anyone ever experience this and any potential fixes?

Thank you!
Mike

The fittings under the bottle will come lose and cause a leak,
check the fittings and hose, possible crack in bottle, not sure why it would leak under way unless it was pressuring up, bad vent on cap?

The vent cap only works one way, to let air in and allow the lube to go down. Probably building a little pressure and pushing out the lube at the bottom. Replace the bottle. Its pretty common for them to leak after a few years.

If it is for the drive trim - on the pump. Those leak at the seam around the middle.
If it is the bottle that holds gear oil for the drive, then maybe it is leaking at the bottom??
Just replace them. They are cheap in the grand scheme of things.

Bill, are you talking about the oil resorvoir on the bottom of the pumps....the seam where the top and botom of the tank itself are joined together?
I bought 4 from Teague last summer to replace mine, that used a single screw on the bottom side to hold the reservoir to the pump, with the new style that use the 4 top mount screws. Keeps the tank from turning. I've been chasing a slight leak on 2 of them all last yr with no luck thinking I messed up the hose fittings during the change over.
Thanks

The seam below the fill cap:

Are you sure it's coming from the tank itself, and not the seal on the drive input shaft? The XR's have been known to blow that seal out.

OK, so here is what I am finding. I did change the caps and ruled the cap out.

While the boat is running the starbaord side seems fine. But, then after we are docked we notice the oil is out or down but interestingly enough, not all the time??? I do see some of it on the inside wall of the transom.

I am not sure if the bottle or plastic bottle is cracked but I think I feel better about this since I can see some of the blue lubricant on the inside wall of the transom.

Any thoughts? Should I repalce the plastic bottle????
