Default Shift not out of forword gear

Hi,

At 50% of shifting out of forword gear (Bravo I drive maybe same age like the boat 1988) it´s not posible to shift, i have to pull very hard and try 3-4 times till i have it out. There is no noise at any time
I have a 1 1/2 year old lower cable and just changed the long cable because of this problem. Foreword in gear and reverse in and out of gear is absolutly no problem. The other 50% out off forword gear is also no problem.
I think it could not be an adjustment problem when it´s only by shifting out of gear.

Does anybody had this problem before ?

I´m thankfull for any help

Hans

It may be the detent ball is worn or failed. It is part of the shift linkage under the rear cover. Its easy to inspect drain oil and remove cover.

Mobilemercman, is it repairable without pulling the drive when it´s that what you mean ? When the Ball could be bad could that part where the ball is working together be also bad ?

Thanks daredevil,

i will have a look into the drivehousing by my self. In the most cases i repair my boat by my self. I have a lot of tools and i´m a mechanik since 1986. But maybe when i dont have the time or it´s more difficoult than we think at the moment i will give him a call and make an apointment for the repair.

Thanks an greatings from Germany

The detent ball may be the problem I have seen the ball come out and randomly bind the shift linkage. The shift forks could be grooved from miss adjustment making shifting difficult. That would entail removing the top cap as well and a few special tools.
As far as adjustment goes the cables have an exact way to set them up with specific tools. If it is properly set up no adjustment is necassary.

Thanks MOBILMERCMAN

Maybe i can open the housing on thursday this week, i hope it´s the smaller thing but it´s an older drive so the risk is high that i have to change all parts, i will see.
I´ll stay in touch

Thanks for answering

Hans

Hi,

The ball is ok. nothing looks worn.
But there are the 2 disc where a + and - where the +I should be directly over ( or Under) the -I . On the upper i can see the + sign on the lower is nothing to see.
It looks like an missadjustment that maybe could result in shiftingproblems.
I don´t have the spezial tools and don´t have the time at the moment . I will bring it to an Repairshop.

Thanks

Hans
