I suppose the corrosion issue can happen in fresh water but I don't know for sure. One thing, the effect from pinching the rams is more pronounced trimming down since the down pressure is lower than the up pressure on the drive. Do you have the same problem trimming up and down??
My trim rams were almost dangerous due to the different down speeds slowing down from a high speed blast since I have a single up/down switch on the throttles. I fixed one set of rams and now need to rebuild the other set but I boat in brackish water. Was your boat operated solely in fresh water or did it have a stint in salt/brackish water?
Try asking Mr. Gadgets or Mobilemercman on a PM. Maybe they can come up with a troubleshooting plan. The rebuild kit is expensive when you add the cost of the cylinder caps so you will want to make sure that you actually need a rebuild before investing in the kits.
