Default B1 maintenance - pulling the drive

How often do you guys pull the drive off for maintenance purposes?

What exactly needs to be done in there? Grease u-joints, etc?

Of course my next question will be, how hard is it to do this or should it be left to a professional.

Thanks!!

In my extremely amateur opinion you should pull them no less than ONCE a year.

It is just 6 nuts that hold them on and then the two bolts for the trim rams (plus possibly a couple additional bolts if you have a tie bar or External Hyd. Steering).

Once you have done it the first time you can have one lying on the ground in about 10 minutes.

As it slides off be sure to come off with it slow enough that you can get the shift cable unhooked.

Check Ujoints for wear, bellows for signs of water intrusion, gimbal bearing for grinding that woudl be an early sign of sure failure, lubricate spline as you put it back in.

MAKE sure you have at least two people - they are awkward.

Or a drive jack if you are so lucky. If not, then an engine cherry picker works good.

motoboy - search on youtube, I'm sure there is a vid on there about drive removal.
