Alpha Gen 1 gimbal with Gen 2 bell housing?

Hello everyone. I have not received my new drives yet, but the person I am getting them from claims that I do not need to change my gimbal rings of my Gen 1 alpha drives and that the bell housing of the Gen 2 drives will match up fine. If that is the case, I am curious as to why the Gen 1 and Gen 2 gimbals have different part numbers. I don't know for sure, but don't want to wait for my Gen 2's to arrive to find out that I need more parts. Anyone ever done this?

Thanks!

Dustin

The ginbles, rings, Bellhousings, and trim rams are different. You can make a Gen 1 drive work on a gen II bellhousing/gimble/rams, but I don't think you can go the other way. I believe the width of the Gen II bellhousing is wider than the Gen 1, so it wouldn't fit into the ring. I don't know if the Gen 2 ring will fit in a gen 1 Transom.

I have first hand experience fitting an Alpha SS on a Gen 2 Transom assembly, so I know how it is done. Through my research though, I found it unlikely to go the other way.

Why didn't you just change over to Bravo's?

Can't afford them. Was lucky to find a pair of counter turning gen II alphas for $2K...
