TRS Outer Gimbal Bolt Lengths?
I have a question regarding my TRS outer gimbal/transom assembly.
The bolts that mount the outdrive up to the gimbal are different between the two sets i have for some reason.
1 outer assembly has bolts that are just over 2". Call it 2 1/4" length.
The other has them at 4 1/4" length.
The outdrive i have is the TRS rh turn. I bought the other one with the 4" bolts as a backup for a rebuild.
It looks like i will have to cut them down and have some threads turned onto them.
Just curious as if any of you know why this may be?
Thanks SHU

Bolts, or do you mean studs?
All 6?
All 6?

Why don't you just remove them all and swap them? They come out easy. Just grab on to them in the non-threaded area with vise grips and take them out. No way would I try to cut those off and re-thread them.

Are you sure your not comparing them to the studs that go through the transom?

Nope. On the outer transom. I wish i could attach some pics. But not a paying member. So no can do.
It kindah took me a second to figure out something was different. I was cleaning them today getting ready to paint them. I kept looking at them and couldnt figure it out. Then i saw as they were sitting next to each other against the wall.
So i take it i should put some locktight on the threads before installing the new studs?
Thanks again for the info.

Not really necessary. If you do just use a medium strength. I replaced a couple and never used it. No problems.

It probably had Marine Machine steering on it. They use much longer studs. If you get them off with out damaging them I could be interested in the studs as I just got some MM steering and may need a few of them.
