Default Destroyed a 2005 Volvo SX drive

Had the outdrive from my girls 2005 Vovlo SX checked out by 2 different shops.. one in Ohio, and one in New York. Both shops said that the drive is literally destroyed.
Apparently a faulty propshaft seal leaked in water for a long time. Said all the internal parts are destroyed and need to be replaced. I saw all the parts... twisted input shaft, rusty prop shaft, rusty gears...etc.
Question: Is rust on a prop shaft really a problem?
Does anyone know where I can get a used or reman?

The corrosion on the prop shaft can be a problem. After time I developed a stress crack that started with rust. I found this out the hard way flying across the lake, motor hit the limiter and bow dropped. Trimmed it up to find half my cavatation plate gone along with my prop.

Your best bet might be to just find a good used drive.

Check out Doug Russell or Marine Parts Express. Both have Volvo drives and rebuilds I believe.

It's a 5.0 motor. I think the drive ratio is 1.60 but I see a lot of 1.66 ratio's. I might have to check again.
Yeah, I guess skimping on a prop shaft is probably not a good idea.
You see, I'm a merc guy myself, and now I know why.... seems to be mercs are a dime a dozen... can't find used Volvo's anywhere!!

Ratio is 1.6:1. I'm still looking for a used drive so I can still make my vacation plans in the Keys in February. Someone please... take my money.

Excellent, definately let me know. I may have found one in Florida, but SC would be a little better for me.
