TRS Trim Ram Mystery Part #'s

Merc lists the ram for TRS as part #47342A12. On both of my drives the left arm is part #87412 and the right is #87411. Anyone ever heard of these part #'s?. The 87411's have an older style Merc logo on them but they're otherwise identical to each other. Both part #'s have external lines. The other thing I noticed with the drive pin removed, the left hand-arms run in and out much faster than the right-hand arms. In fact, the right-hand arms hardly move until the left ones are all the way in or out. Is this normal or do I need to rebuild the slower ones?

OK, so it appears that I have older style rams that are different part #'s on the port and starboard sides. Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the them and if its normal for the starboard rams to more more slowly then the port?

The difference is the way the lines run. It is not a big difference and I have actually swapped them around in a jam. They will ussually move like you are saying. I ussually try and turn the end and if it turns relatively easy then it is good to go. If you can not turn them then time to rebuild.

X 2 that is about what i'm use to seeing also. Yes when the rams are not hooked up to the drive one side will run slower some times much slower then the other, And I have also see them run like how yours is one then the other, Also like what Audionfn said you want to be able to turn the inner ram while it's unhooked from the drive. Normaly the rams could get water in side and freeze them up from moving and turning. Is that what you have going on???

Thanks for the info guys. I tried to turn mine: 1 is tight but I can turn it by hand. The others I need to put a screwdriver through the pin hole to turn them. Is that normal or is it rebuild time? Are the rebuild kits different for the 87411 and 87412?

Probably time for a rebuild then. The rebuild kits are the same.

If you can give me your Transom serial# or and the engine # I could try to find the right rebuild numbers if I can and let you know later.
