Default trs ram question

does it make a differance if you use internal or external rams if your drive was originaly internal

Yes it does.
Internal line cylinders are high pressure/low volume and have the external reverse lock valve and high pressure/low volume pump. This is early style.

External line cylinders are low pressure/high volume and do not use the external reverse lock valve and use a low pressure/high volume pump.They also have larger diameter pistons inside and use larger diameter lines between the pump and transom assembly.
This is late style. Mercruiser Manual #5 TR/TRS states they are not interchangeable!
