Just for clarification... What does a gimble bearing alignment tool look like, or a gimble bearing installation tool?

My buddy used a piece of PVC piping the approximate size of his bearing to install his. Cut it down to about a 4" length, but a 2"X4" behind it, and beat it with a hammer...

For OSO'ers going straight thru Paypal I can take a little bit off.

How does that grab onto the back of the bearing.

I made a crude looking tool years ago to do this, but I have to put a bolt on behind the bearing before pulling. It works but it's one for the RedNecks:drink:

I rented a blind bearing puller from autozone worked great. but had to buy the alignment tool from the local marina.

That's not the puller. Thats the Alignment tool and Gimbal driver.

The ebay link says
GIMBAL BEARING PULLER FOR MERCRUISER
How does the bearing puller lock onto the backside of the bearing?

I just inserted a piece of black pipe into the bearing and then screwed a cap on the end from the inside and just used the pipe as the hammer ( just slide it in and out - tha cap will pound the bearing out.

I put the bearing in the freezer overnite, they should drop in after a night in the deep freeze.:grinser010:

Another style tool that you can use to remove the Gimble bearing is called a Rear Axle Bearing Puller Set. By putting this puller tool behind the bearing and then using either a big slide hammer or puller tool will get the bearing out, Here is a link to show you what tool I'm talking about.

Also here is a detailed look at how to use this puller starting with post number 23.

If you're just doing a R&R of your old gimble bearing, why would you need an alignment tool? Isn't the housing going to do that for you?
