Default need help identifying which lower housing i have

i bought a lower unit housing that was described as a bravo 1/xr when i got it. the housing has a built in nose cone on it which makes me wonder what it is exactly. my mechanic swaped all of my standard bravo internals into it since my old housing was shot. the numbers on it are 1656-8865-c2 and also have a s 2 with a square around the 2. here is a picture of it

did they make a standard bravo drive with a nose cone? this is not a add on done, the inside of the unit follows the shape of the cone so there is no possible way its a add on. the mechanic told me he thought it could be a aftermarket housing but the numbers are 1 digit off of a mercruiser

i just went out and sanded the side of it down, begining to think my mechanic is on crack because the thing looks like its a add on to me, i could be wrong though. looks like it has a putty type of stuff to smooth it out but i didnt sand too far into it.

Where did you get that lower case???????? I think might be one that I had on the Pantera.
Either way, its a standard Bravo case with an aftermarket nose cone added on.

the housing came off of ebay maybe 6 months ago, mine was shot and this one was cheap. the nose cone is smoothed in very well which is likely why the mechanic thought it was molded in. i find it funny now because he was teh one tht told me the inside of the casing went out with the cone and now its looking aftermarket. the mechanic was telling me to paint strip it so its bare but after figuring this out that idea is out. thinking of painting it silver though, any tthoughts on that one?

It looks almost identical to one I had on my Pantera. I switched to a dwp lower and traded the case. I think my old is still on the rack at Midwest Perf in Bellevue. I would still strip it down then use a good primer made for aluminum. Paint black or silver then with a quality automotive paint.
