Merctrans fluid
I have a '87 Sutphen with a Merctrans and TRS setup behind twin sbc.
Can someone tell me what type of fluid the Merctrans uses? Is it regular ATF, or Type F? Do you recommend something else?
Any recommendations are appreciated.
Thanks,

Here is the web site of a guy that specializes in the Merctrans Transmissions. He recommends synthetic ATF because it runs cooler.

I recommend this......

Not exactly sure why you wouldn't use synthetic. Its only gonna make things operate cooler and reduce wear!

Wear & temp is not the usual failure, most of the fluids other than F are 10-15% worse when it comes to break-away torque. The Amsoil Super Shift is not bad, cannot remember our exact test numbers but it was only off a few percent depending on the friction material.
