Merc Racing made a few #7s for a short time in the early 1990's as a diesel oriented drive. It was essentially a #6 with a single shaft lower gearcase intended to run deep in the water and turn larger diameter props. Internal gearing was oriented to the lower rpm of diesels. It performed well in the target application, but never really took off and was dropped from the product line.
